Capability · 3D Design

Functional 3D design.

The focus is practical mechanical design: parts and assemblies that need to fit, move, mount, protect, guide, adapt or be manufactured reliably.

A design can start from dimensions, sketches, an existing part, a machine interface or a functional requirement. Geometry is developed with the intended manufacturing process and assembly sequence in mind.

Types of 3D design

Mechanical and production-focused CAD.

  1. Replacement & adaptation

Recreate unavailable or damaged functional parts from measurements and references, or modify existing geometry to strengthen, relocate, resize or connect it.

  2. Brackets, adapters & interfaces

Mounts, brackets, couplings, spacers and adapters designed around existing hole patterns, shafts, tubes, sensors, fasteners and machine interfaces.

  3. Housings & covers

Enclosures, guards, covers and mounting features with relevant service access, cable routing and assembly details.

  4. Jigs, fixtures & process aids

Positioning aids, drilling or cutting guides, assembly fixtures and repeatable workshop tooling.

  5. Assemblies & mechanisms

Multi-part mechanical concepts with defined clearances, movement, fastening and assembly sequence.

  6. Design for manufacture

Geometry developed for 3D printing, laser cutting or an external production route, with wall thickness, access, tolerance, split lines and fastening considered during design.

Parametric models

One model for multiple variations.

For products that vary by a set of dimensions, a parameter-driven model can replace separately redrawing every version. Important dimensions and options become controlled inputs that update the resulting geometry.

  • Adapters for different shaft, tube or core diameters.
  • Bins, organisers and modular storage parts.
  • Brackets with selectable dimensions or hole patterns.
  • Repeated product families with width, height, thickness or interface variants.
  • Fixtures and guides adapted to different products.
  • Configurable production aids.

Scripted geometry

Geometry generated from controlled inputs.

Parametric work can be implemented as scripted geometry, including OpenSCAD models and browser-based configurators that generate production-ready geometry or STL output from selected dimensions.

  • Parametric core adapter generator.
  • Configurable storage and bin geometry.
  • Modular drawer organiser concepts.
  • Size-driven parts with selectable grooves, clearances, dividers, magnets, wall styles and other controlled variables.

Useful result

A 3D model ready for prototyping, production or further variation.
